Skudora vs. Shopify

Grow online without leaving Spire behind.

Shopify was built for direct-to-consumer brands. Skudora was built for distributors who run on Spire. No migration, no second database, no big switchover. Just your business, online.

The real difference

One system, not two systems talking

Other platforms keep their own copy of your products, customers and orders, and middleware syncs that copy with Spire. When a sync lags or fails, your website and your books disagree. Skudora works directly on Spire's data through Spire's own API, and extends it where Spire stops. There's no second copy to keep in sync.

Build on what you already have

Your catalogue, customers, pricing and warehouses already live in Spire. Skudora starts there. Every feature is included from day one, and you turn modules on as your team is ready. No big launch, no retraining everyone at once.

Built for how distributors actually work

Quotes with expiry dates. Purchase orders and vendor drop ship. Service work, statements and compliance documents. Shopify covers some of this with apps. Skudora builds it in.

Skudora vs. Shopify, side by side

Shopify is excellent at what it was built for: consumer brands that want a fast storefront and a huge app store. If you're a distributor running Spire, here's how the two compare.

Things distributors need that Shopify doesn't build in

Built into every Skudora subscription, with nothing extra to install.

Price 100,000 SKUs without a spreadsheet

Skudora's pricing engine calculates a list price for every SKU from what it actually costs you to sell it. When a supplier's price or the exchange rate changes, your prices follow in real time.

  • Purchase currency and exchange rateCosts from foreign suppliers convert at today's rate.
  • Country of originPricing accounts for where each item comes from.
  • Category and subcategory marginsSet the margin once for a whole category.
  • Margin exceptionsOverride the margin for specific brands or items.
  • Multi-vendor costsCompare what each vendor charges for the same SKU.
  • Handling surchargesDangerous goods and large, awkward items carry their extra shipping and handling cost.

MAP rules that override the math

Set minimum advertised price rules by brand or manufacturer. When the calculation comes in below MAP, Skudora holds the advertised price at MAP. Shopify relies on add-on apps for MAP.

Show these prices to the public, or only to certain types of customers once they log in.

Built for the way you already work

AI that works where you work

Skudora's AI isn't a chatbot bolted to the side of the screen, and it never takes over. It shows up inside specific tasks, in menus you already recognize: cleaning up thousands of technical SKUs, reading supplier documents, drafting a clear reply to a customer. Use it when it helps. Skip it when it doesn't.

Your warehouse, beyond what Spire can do

Create, update and remove Spire locations right from the warehouse floor. Transfer stock between them in real time. Track multiple bins per item, something Spire itself doesn't support. It all runs in the Skudora Fulfill app, included with every subscription.

Proof, before it leaves the dock

Attach photos, videos or PDFs to every outbound shipment from Skudora Fulfill. When a customer reports a short shipment, or a warranty claim on live plants arrives two weeks after delivery, you pull up exactly what left your warehouse. It keeps your carriers accountable too.

Rentals and service contracts, billed automatically

Rent out a gas detector for three months, billed weekly, set up from the quote you already sent. Skudora charges the card or issues a new invoice on schedule, for as long as the agreement runs.

Questions distributors ask

Can Shopify connect to Spire?

Yes, through a third-party connector or custom middleware. That setup keeps a second copy of your data in Shopify and syncs it with Spire. Skudora is built directly on Spire's API, so there's nothing to sync.

Do I have to migrate my products and customers?

No. Skudora builds on the catalogue, customers, pricing and warehouses already in Spire.

Doesn't Shopify do B2B now?

Yes. Since 2026, Shopify includes core B2B features like company accounts and net terms on every paid plan. What it doesn't include is a native Spire connection, quotes with expiry dates, vendor drop ship routing, service work or compliance documents.

Is Skudora more expensive than Shopify?

Skudora is $549 CAD a month with every feature included. Shopify's base plans cost less, but full B2B on Shopify Plus starts at US$2,300 a month, before apps and integration work.

Will my team be forced to use AI?

No. AI shows up inside specific tasks when someone chooses to use it. Nothing runs on its own.

Where is my data stored?

Skudora's own data is stored in Canada. Payment processors, and any third-party add-ons or header snippets you choose to install, store data under their own terms and may keep it outside Canada.
